ABOUT THE 24 HOUR TRIAL

200 kilometre course

12 competitive off-road natural terrain sections linked by transport sections

25 control points, one between each section plus route check controls

3 refuel stops for taking on fluids (fuel, oil, water, etc.) and air filters

4 laps

6 hours per lap

3 mandatory rest breaks between laps

1 road registered machine

All tools, spare parts and clothing needed for the duration of the event are carried on the rider and/or machine

2 head lights maximum

1 minute intervals separating each competitor

No outside assistance is permitted (other than for safety)

Varied natural terrain ranging from green slippery rolling hills, rough rocky outcrops, large creek canyons, dusty open flats and winding mallee scrub

2 machine types – sidecar and solo

100s of volunteers from motorcycle clubs and community groups assisting

24 HOURS

Since 1924, the basic aim of Australia’s oldest continuing motorcycling event has remained much the same; arriving at the next control within the time allocated, with machine intact. 

In the modern era, there is an additional challenge; completing each competitive off-road section in the quickest time possible, to determine a clear winner.

The attrition rate can be as high as 50%

For most competitors, it is an achievement just to finish

As well as the rugged men & women who ride the event, this has been and always will be as much a fun weekend for the spectators, as they watch their favourites from some of the best, most beautiful scenery in South Australia. We do ask spectators and all who attend to respect the land owners property, and to take your rubbish away with you please, to not camp on private property without permission and also to drive or ride carefully on the roads and NOT in any properties. THANK YOU!
